Acquire More Customers by Improving your Online Presence
For many small businesses getting more customers is the most difficult part of the job. Relying on location and word of mouth alone is not a good long term strategy. There are several easy steps any small business can take to improve their online presence and thus attract new customers to their product or service offering.
The place to start for any small business with Google. The vast majority of searches (local included) are done on Google and Google Maps. If your business does not have a listing on Google or you have not claimed and/or optimized your listing using Google My Business (GMB) then you are likely missing out on acquiring new customers who are searching for businesses like yours in your area.
The three most important factors in local search are 1) proximity 2) relevance 3) prominence i.e. customer reviews & quality links.
By simply adding your dry cleaner, law practice, medical office, barber shop etc to Google Maps you've completed factor #1. If you optimize your GMB page then you've started to move in the right direction when it comes to relevance. If you actively cultivate customer reviews (don't be afraid to ask!) and then respond them using your GMB account then you are improving your reputation and therefore your ranking in the Google Search algorithm.
Of course businesses can profit from having a Facebook, Yelp, Angie's List, Instagram etc. page but the place to start is with Google.
